Bentonite Clay vs Moroccan Red Clay

Updated: Jan 22, 2020

Both Bentonite and Moroccan Red Clay are natural clays that provide the skin and scalp great benefits including reducing inflammation, detoxifying and more. We will give you some background information on both clays, the benefits, which clay I prefer and ways to purchase.

Bentonite Clay naturally occurs as a product of volcanic ash exposed to wind and water. This clay can be added to creams, lotions and other cosmetics to thicken the consistency. Bentonite Clay can also be used with water to create a skin mask (face, underarms, etc); this skin mask detoxifies the skin, reduces the production of sebum (oil, and more).

*Note: Bentonite Clay should not be stored in a metal container and should not be measured with a metal tool. (Metal will reduce its effectiveness. Unless specifically mentioned, Bentonite Clay is not for internal use.)

Moroccan Red Clay can also be used to detoxify the skin. This iron-rich clay is one of the most pure and rare clays on earth. Also known as Rhassoul/ Ghassoul clay, which means "that which washes" in Arabic, Moroccan Red Clay has a variety of benefits to the skin!

Preference:

I prefer Bentonite Clay over Red Moroccan Clay, simply because of the moisturization level! From my perspective, Bentonite Clay leaves the skin with more moisture after rinsing off. I do not, however, like Bentonite Clay on the hair, well my hair at least. It made my hair feel much more dry, as my hair is already naturally dry.

Though, if you are someone that has an extremely oily T-Zone (Forehead, Nose, & Chin), the Red Moroccan Clay may be a great option

** Cool Tip: When using either clay as a mask, mix with The Hair Hotline™'s Rosewater instead of regular tap water for added skin benefits, a great smell and balancing your skin's pH!
