From The Inside Out

By: Rha-Kera Barney-Sutton

We all know general ways to keep our hair healthy:

  • Trims

  • Proper Shampoo and Conditioner

  • Maintaining Moisture

  • Wearing Silk Scarf/ Bonnet At Night

  • Staying Away From Tight Ponytails

  • Destressing Is Essential

  • Not Coloring Your Own Hair

  • Etc. (Read More Healthy Hair Tips Here)

But we oftentimes forget that healthy hair starts on the inside! What we eat, drink, feel, and do can sometimes affect our hair and how it grows!

While I won't bore you with the details, it is important to keep your insides as healthy as possible!  Hair growth starts on the inside of the body and without proper nutrients, the hair cannot begin to grow in a healthy fashion!

Being healthy/doing what is in your control to be healthy means:

  • Eating Right (fruits, veggies, no processed foods, etc.)

  • Drinking Enough Water (half your body weight in ounces, ex. if you weight 100 lbs drink 50 ounces of water)

  • Exercising/ Yoga

  • Destressing (doing the above ⬆️ can help and/or deep breathing)

  • Taking A Multivitamin

  • Boosting Your Immune System (see below ⬇️)

If your hair is in an unhealthy place and you're on medications, take a look to see if your medication is on the list of meds that affect hair:
