Just a Spoonful of Sugar

Sugar, although not good to take internally, is a great way to cleanse the scalp!!

Exfoliants are great to use every now and then on the scalp; they are also a great way to control itching! The exfoliation will also help minimize flaking that happens on your scalp.

Using white sugar or brown sugar are wonderful exfoliants AND they are inexpensive!

Ok, to exfoliate the scalp, put your shampoo in a bowl and add a tablespoon of white or brown sugar to the bowl and stir. Mix them together and shampoo normally. This mixing process should be done right before shampooing; if you mix everything up too long before shampooing, the mixture may not be as effective.

To start exfoliation process: Rinse your hair very well while running your fingers along the scalp and hair (for about 45 seconds- 1 minute). Rinsing your hair prior to shampooing loosens and releases debris and oils from scalp. This also makes sure that you get a good lather on your hair and scalp.

*Note: Exfoliation should not only be done once a week, too much exfoliation can cause scalp irritation and abrasions.

Add your sugar to your favorite oils also for a nice pre-shampoo scrub:

Warm the oil up first, then apply the scrub to the scalp in sections. (Never boil the oil, but you can put your container in hot water and let it sit until it's warm. Warning: Do not apply oil that is too hot to the scalp). Start with 1 -2 teaspoons of oil and use as little or as much oil you want to cover the scalp. You can always add more sugar for more exfoliation After applying the mixture, massage it throughout the scalp for 3-5 minutes, then allow mixture to sit another 5 minutes with a plastic cap (or plastic bag 😁 ). Then rinse the mixture and move to applying shampoo and conditioner.

*You can also do this same process with your conditioner (using 1- 2 teaspoons added to your conditioner).
